Why is Charley Blaine Wrong about Unemployment?

November 30, 2009

A few weeks ago, I sent out a short e-mail to all of my readers saying, 10.2% unemployment, need I say more?” In response, one of my readers sent me an article by Charley Blaine explaining why this is not the end of the world. You can find the article at: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Dispatch/market-dispatches.aspx?post=1356156. The article clearly states 10% unemployment is no big deal because unemployment usually lags the eco…

Where is California’s Representation?

October 21, 2009

… time, myself and many others in similar situations faced economic turmoil. However, nothing comes close to what is happening now in what used to be the greatest State in the union. According to the most recent reports, the unemployment rate in California has reached 12.2%. The rate in Los Angeles County is at 12.7%. Some cities within the county such as Compton and Commerce are over 20%. These are all far worse than the national rate of 9.8%. …

April 21, 2010

As all of you know, I am very fond of the Space Program.  I have incredible memories of it from my childhood days and astronauts are still heros to me.  Last week, President Obama basically dismantled the program even more than I thought he would.  Here is an article from my friend Craig Covello to explain the situation further.  Please let me know what you think and let Obama know what you think about the destruction of Ame…

The Real Job Numbers by Craig Covello

April 5, 2010

On Friday, April 2 at 8:30 AM Eastern, the US Department of Labor issued its “Employment Situation” for the month of March. Some of the talking heads were predicting that the unemployment numbers would not be very good. In hindsight, they were either right or slightly pessimistic depending upon your comfort level accepting the new reality of unemployment statistics. Here is an excerpt from the March report: • The unemployment rate h…

Soulless Candidates Battle for the Soul of the GOP?

January 21, 2012
They both have become despicable.

… seemed on the superficial level to offer continuity, it was actually an ideological reversal, back to the Liberal wing of the Republican Party. Though he lambasted his opponent Michael Dukakis, tarring him with the “Liberal” label, which Reaganism had turned into a dirty word, Bush himself was every bit a Progressive. His admitted trouble with “the vision thing” prevented him from continuing with Reagan’s unfinished work: shrinking government, e…

Global Rule One Has Cost Actors Jobs

Striking Actors

Here is an article I wrote about one year ago, that is just as true today as it was when I originally wrote it.  It directly involves the entertainment industry and contains information that everyone in the acting profession should be aware of.   As we all know, the American economy is currently battling double digit unemployment.  The current unemployment rate is 10% and most major economists believe it will go higher.  The Screen Actor’s Guild…

The Romney Revolution

January 2, 2012
romney

The year was 1980.  The President was Jimmy Carter.  Under Carter’s leadership, the United States was experiencing stagflation, high unemployment, an energy crisis was brewing, and the Iran hostage crisis was in full effect.  While he began his term with a 66% approval rating, it had dropped to 34% (with 55% disapproving).  It was also an election year… and Ronald Reagan was Carter’s opponent.  On November 4, 1980, Reagan took 44 states and won …

“Dancing With The Stars” Misplaces Its Values

October 30, 2011
Chaz Bono

… of these circumstances, the use of the word hero is trivialized. A deeper problem is that ides of myth, legend and story hold a society’s culture together. The concept of the hero is central to these. By misapplying the hero label and refraining from using it when needed takes our culture in the wrong direction. I hope we can recover the sense of propriety about who we call a hero and what they did to be considered brave before it’s too late. A …
