In the past few days, I have been thinking that way too much of this column has been about domestic affairs and the economy. This was not the original plan, but the events of the past few months have dictated it. However, based upon the current events in Thailand and the G20 Summit last week, I think the time is ripe to discuss foreign affairs a bit. Today in Thailand, the Red Shirts, headed by the lunatic ex-prime minister decided that the Thai…

As all of my friends, relatives and acquaintances know, I have just returned from Bangkok, Thailand where I have been since January prepping and shooting a film called “Elephant White” with Djimon Hounsou and Kevin Bacon. On the whole, the experience was rewarding. Working with Prachya Pinkaew, the internationally acclaimed Director was both a treat and a learning experience. I know it will continue as such during the post-production period. How…

I am sitting in my hotel room in Bangkok on a Sunday afternoon; taking a break from prepping a film that will star Djimon Hounsou and be directed by the Steven Spielberg of Thailand, Prachya Pinkaew. Prachya is famous for Om Bak, Chocolat and Tom Yung Goon, three of the highest grossing films in the history of the country. You may be wondering why I am in Thailand and not somewhere in the United States. Why am I in a country 9,000 miles away fr…

I am down to my last few days of pre-production here in Thailand. We officially start shooting “Prince and Me 4” on Monday. It is now Friday afternoon here. The cast and crew are working their butts off and things are coming together. I’m going to have to make this column shorter than usual, but there are some things that I feel have to be said about this pending stimulus package and about President Obama’s declaration this week on executive pay…

… seemed on the superficial level to offer continuity, it was actually an ideological reversal, back to the Liberal wing of the Republican Party. Though he lambasted his opponent Michael Dukakis, tarring him with the “Liberal” label, which Reaganism had turned into a dirty word, Bush himself was every bit a Progressive. His admitted trouble with “the vision thing” prevented him from continuing with Reagan’s unfinished work: shrinking government, e…

Loyal Readers and Friends: As you all know by now, I am travelling this week and will be on my way to Thailand to do a movie. Accordingly, there will be no original material by me until sometime next week when I am in Thailand. Hopefully, Ira or someone else will be able to post something this week so that the column does not go completely blank for a week. But, if so, there is not much I can do about it. I look forward to writ…

…te that does not remember Neil Armstrong stepping his foot onto the lunar surface and uttering those immortal lines: “This is one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind.” And, it was. As most of you know, I am in Thailand prepping a feature film to be directed by Prachya Pinkaew. Just yesterday Prachya and I were talking and the Apollo missions came up. Prachya told me that in Thailand there was no school on that July day except for …

…are really all about. The reality is that he knows the proposed stimulus package is only a means of converting the American free market economy to European styled socialism. I invite your comments as I sit in my hotel room in Thailand ready to begin another week of pre-production. We begin filming two weeks from Monday. Until my next column, I wish you all the best. © 2009 by Frank T. DeMartini. All rights reserved. Permission to copy and use exc…

Republicanism is not lost but it is certainly a candidate for a “Progressive Lite” label….or what as “Congress is Useless” all about? http://www.hollywoodrepublican.net/2011/11/congress-is-useless/ And all that is supported in academia today is under the myth of “academic freedom”. … of these circumstances, the use of the word hero is trivialized. A deeper problem is that ides of myth, legend and story hold a society’s culture together. The concept of the hero is central to these. By misapplying the hero label and refraining from using it when needed takes our culture in the wrong direction. I hope we can recover the sense of propriety about who we call a hero and what they did to be considered brave before it’s too late. A …
