A Few Thoughts from the Set about Current Affairs

February 16, 2009

…t spending package amounts to approximately 780 billion dollars which thankfully is substantially less than the 925 billion dollar package that was passed in the House and the 870 billion dollar package that was passed in the Senate. But, according to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, “A stimulus bill that was supposed to be timely, targeted and temporary is none of the above. And this means that Congress is about to approve a stimulus pa…

Good Debate Will Keep America Great

August 30, 2009

…d my column already know, I am no fan of the Kennedys or of Teddy’s political leanings in any way, shape or form. However, one thing I did not know until this week was that Teddy was considered the master of compromise in the Senate. Per an interview with Oren Hatch this morning, he was always capable of finding the one thing in a bill that the other side could clasp onto. If this is true, then where is the next compromiser now that he is gone? I…

The End of Reverse Discrimination?

June 30, 2009

…ding as it did, was overruling a decision in which Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotamayor took part. Does this mean her nomination is in jeopardy? I think not, but it does mean that she should be more carefully examined by the Senate. Remember, this is the woman who stated that her rich cultural background as a Puerto Rican woman would qualify her more to decide certain types of cases than a white man. Maybe, she is the one who is guilty of discri…

America’s Royal Family

January 2, 2009

Well, now that Caroline Kennedy has decided that she wants to join the family business, I think it’s apropos to say a few words about the Kennedy Clan. As with all Kennedys, Caroline has surely proven her abilities to be in the family business: She wants to be appointed to the US Senate with absolutely no experience whatsoever. I was sitting at lunch yesterday with a younger member of the electorate who was obviously enamored of the Kennedy clan…

They Dye Has Been Cast by Ira Schwartz

December 22, 2009

… … He never engaged in this kind of unsavory process of offering people different deals, which in the end cost people from other states lots of money and puts burdens on them.” As I’m sure you all know by now the Senate voted to close debate on the bill by a 60-40 vote. The 60 votes consisted of 58 Democrats and two Independents. The Republicans stood firm with their 40 members against and most if not all were as disgusted as John Mc…

…ights Act of 1991. He received a 76% rating from the NAACP in 2008. On immigration, Specter supported a “pathway to citizenship” and a “guest worker program” which opponents call amnesty. He introduced Senate bill S. 2611 (the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2006) in 2006. Roderick Miller (Louisiana, ’65) – State legislator; a rarity in Louisiana at the time, worked toward getting more black voter parti…

What A Difference a Year Makes

December 16, 2009

…ave made it less likely. Just when Harry Reid seemed to have reached a compromise to get his filibuster proof 60 votes, his own party began to splinter. Ex DNC Chairman Howard Dean went on the record as saying that the entire Senate Bill should be scratched because it has become spineless. Per Mr. Dean, without a public option there is nothing to discuss. If Dean is successful, whatever Reid was accomplishing in the Senate will dissipate quickly….

Al Ramirez, the Candidate to Replace Jane Harmon!

February 9, 2011
226_IMG00695-20110104-1120

As you all know, I supported and worked with Al Ramirez in his failed attempt to unseat Barbara Boxer in November.  As you also know, Al was unsuccessful in the primary and Carly Fiorina was the GOP nominee.  Again, as you also know, Carly was shellacked by Barbara Boxer.  Big surprise there?  Not! Al Ramirez’ 2010 U.S. Senate campaign slogan was “Make California Special” to emphasize a plan for economic rebound. With a Special Election to repla…

Health Reform and The Tenth Amendment

August 14, 2009

…at HR 3200 should not pay for medical services for illegal immigrants. Remember, the protest ways of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King. The attendance at the Town Halls is working! Within the past twenty-four hours, a few Senate and House Members, including one Democrat, stated they will not pass a bill with the current language regarding even the possibility of the so called death panels. Keep up the good work America! The people are winning…

Is Obama the Next Wilson?

September 23, 2009

… going to be enemies of Israel? Isn’t Israel one of our most important allies? I know it was before the current administration. Developing news on the health care front is that Harry Reid is going to use reconciliation in the Senate if he cannot get the sixty members necessary to block a filibuster. In other words, he is going to bend the rules to his favor so that a simple majority can bypass Senate rules. Sounds a lot like what is going on in M…
