What is a Republican Today?

December 12, 2008

…n. The title of the evening was something to the effect that this organization protects the Bill of Rights. I had to really hold my tongue on that one. In fact the pamphlet given to all attendees stated Freedoms of the Press, Religion, etc., as the cornerstone of the ACLU. Nowhere on this pamphlet was there any mention whatsoever of the Right to Bare Arms. Being a lawyer, I am pretty sure this would also be considered part of the Bill of Rights. …

Barack Obama’s Contraceptive Mandate Violates Multiple Constitutional Rights

February 11, 2012

Barack Obama is once again waking up to the fact that arrogance, ignorance and spinelessness make for a self-destructive combination. Arrogant, in thinking that he can violate with impunity the First Amendment protections of religion enshrined in the Constitution, ignorant in his complete religious illiteracy, and spineless in his retreat once his imperious salvo was greeted with a sharp jab to the proboscis, Dear Leader looked ridiculous in his…

Torture Part IV Penance

February 8, 2012
Prodigal Son

… to ones beliefs, and character building. It might be …”oh”… so wise to fix firmly in place the rational, moral platform that this discussion is framed by, the Judeo-Christian-Philosophy concept, spirituality sans religion. Is it possible to have a dialogue about torture absent the company of “Penance”?  Some would prefer it that way.  “Traditionally, penance has been viewed as a punishment (the Latin poena, the root of pen(it)ence, m…

Health Psychology Class

May 11, 2012
Bob & Susan Summers

….  They will see that we function just like any other family.  I hope they are much more open in asking questions that will make them psychologists as good as Dr. Williams is. There was one student in the class that asked how religion plays in my life.  As I have seen others write their experiences this week on religion, I find that God now plays a much bigger part in my life than he has in years before.  Right before I received my final diagnosi…

The Right To….????

March 9, 2012

…ers say it is about a person’s “right to choose”…I am in agreement it is about this too.  Both of these “Rights”, our “rights”, are guaranteed by the Constitution and cannot be revoked and therein lies the problem. Freedom of Religion is listed as the First Amendment of the Bill or Rights: Freedoms, Petitions, Assembly Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the fr…

“Dancing With The Stars” Misplaces Its Values

October 30, 2011
Chaz Bono

… of these circumstances, the use of the word hero is trivialized. A deeper problem is that ides of myth, legend and story hold a society’s culture together. The concept of the hero is central to these. By misapplying the hero label and refraining from using it when needed takes our culture in the wrong direction. I hope we can recover the sense of propriety about who we call a hero and what they did to be considered brave before it’s too late. A …

Glenn Beck: Why We’re All Catholics Now

February 20, 2012

…thers remembered this. They knew if you can’t serve God as you choose, you are not free. And so they enshrined that right in the First Amendment of the Constitution: The state “shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” This is why Americans are offended by the ruling from the White House that would force church-run institutions to pay for birth control and morning-after pills, which are …

Hanukkah by Ira Schwartz

December 15, 2009

…e letter, you will take all, take half, lose or get a pass. The dreidel game was popular during the rule of Antiochus before the Maccabees’ revolt, a time when soldiers executed any Jews who were caught practicing their religion. When pious Jews gathered to study the Torah, they had the top ready in case they heard soldiers approaching. If the soldiers appeared, they would hide the holy scriptures and pretend to play with the dreidel. The w…

…which actively recruited at traditionally Black colleges) has been in the forefront of creating a color-blind society. “… a core conservative principle… is the belief that our social order rests on a moral foundation and that religion is the source of morality for many people.” League penalties against show-boating and taunting are an effort by the League to reinforce the moral foundation of professional football. Also, while Tim Tebow has gotten…

Palestine…The Invented People

December 14, 2011

…alestine governed by Palestinians. “Palestinians” are Arabs indistinguishable from Arabs throughout the Middle East. The great majority of Arabs in greater Palestine and Israel share the same culture, language and religion. Much of the Arab population in this area actually migrated into Israel and Judea and Samaria from the surrounding Arab countries in the past 100 years.” In fact the whole area was controlled by the Ottoman Turks fr…
