…w months. Sometimes they are very hard for me to get through, and they wipe me out, but hopefully they are helping me keep the muscles I have from becoming more atrophied. Wednesday we will leave for the University of Western Michigan to meet with Dr. Charles Ide, one of the top researchers for MSA in the area. Susan, Doug Brandt and I will be going there to deliver the money we have raised from the Dayton Barefoot Runner’s Race for MSA and the g…

Where is California’s Representation?

October 21, 2009

…ng unless you compare them to other numbers in the country to get a real picture of just how bad things are here right now. The California rate is currently the fourth worst in the country. The only one significantly worse is Michigan at 15.2%. Notice any similarities between the two by the way? Not much except maybe extremely powerful unions in both! And, on top of all this, the economy is primed to get much worse. When I drive down the streets…

March 7, 2012
romney florida

…e Santorum was born, so he also lost his “native state.”  Gingrich was born in Pennsylvania, and we will have to wait to see who wins that contest on April 24th.  After Romney won his “native state” of Michigan last week, he went on to win his “home state” of Massachusetts by a whopping 72 percent. As of tonight, Romney has 417 delegates.  The other 3 candidates have 328 delegates… COMBINED. Romney has m…

“Dancing With The Stars” Misplaces Its Values

October 30, 2011
Chaz Bono

… of these circumstances, the use of the word hero is trivialized. A deeper problem is that ides of myth, legend and story hold a society’s culture together. The concept of the hero is central to these. By misapplying the hero label and refraining from using it when needed takes our culture in the wrong direction. I hope we can recover the sense of propriety about who we call a hero and what they did to be considered brave before it’s too late. A …

The once great state of California

…ile Silicon Valley has rebounded, Kotkin noted, “California’s high-tech job growth, largely in software, has been significant, the rate of increase has been less than half that of key competitors such as Utah, Washington, and Michigan.”  Silicon Valley and Hollywood might be able to withstand the high price of doing business, other businesses can’t.   (Talking with Hollywood producers, even Hollywood is having trouble making ends in meet in the p…

The Romney Spin Machine

March 14, 2012
The Inevitable and The Tortoise

…inia?  Romney barely got 60% of the vote against Ron Paul, who can’t get more than 10% of the vote nowadays in most states.  Hardly anything more than a Pyrrhic victory there. Of course, Romney did win his home state of Michigan and the ever important swing state of Ohio.  But, let’s call them both barely.  And, they were barely in a four man race.  Imagine if either Paul or Gingrich were not on the ballot in either of those states.  …

The How’s and Whys of Runaway Production

January 24, 2010

…. Independent films and many studio films are now shot mostly in Eastern Europe, Canada, South East Asia and/or South Africa. The only real production in America these days is in heavy tax incentive states such as Louisiana, Michigan and the Carolinas. New York and Los Angeles, the homes of film production and the industry since its inception, only have production that either involves a star with the leverage to force production in those cities …

Congressman Won’t Read What They Pass By Chris Holmes

July 20, 2009

… pock marked financial landscape, and an Indy film market that’s all but lost has left me unemployed for what is probably the longest time in my career. Beside deciding whether it’s really advisable to relocate to Michigan (the new promised land for jobs), I’ve now got to find a proper way to scold my Senators and Congressman for not reading – maybe at all – the bills they seem compelled to vote on even before they a…
