The following Press Release was made available today.
Santa Monica tech professional Al Ramirez is taking steps to form an exploratory committee to begin fundraising for another possible US Senate bid in California as a Republican.
Under a referendum passed in California in 2010 all the candidates, both Republican and Democrat, now run on the same primary ballot. This could provide Mr. Ramirez and the GOP the unique opportunity to reach out to Hispanic voters during the nomination process to improve their chances in November. Heading into 2012 Feinstein’s poll numbers have been weak and she is also roiling from the theft of her campaign funds last year. This gives Mr. Ramirez reason to believe she could be a prime target for voter backlash in an anti-incumbent environment.
While Democrats out register Republicans in California there are circumstances that could put the Senate seat in play. Independent voter dissatisfaction with the economy and Obama’s failed promises on immigration could turn Hispanics against Feinstein. Mr. Ramirez sees this an opportunity to be seen as a candidate who can bring these voters to the table with Republicans to overcome hard feelings over immigration and concerns about job losses.
Mr. Ramirez says, “Hispanic voters, Republicans and Independents understand faith, family and hard work. We should come together to uphold the values of freedom that make America great but, there hasn’t been a voice to speak to and for each of these sides. It is a void I believe I can fill to put California back on the right track”.
Even though Mr. Ramirez lost his 2010 Republican primary bid, he is confident that 2012 will be different. Running a statewide campaign in California is expensive, however, Mr. Ramirez believes his insight from a previous attempt will allow him to focus on those voters who can propel his candidacy. In addition, Mr. Ramirez has a strong grasp on social media tools as evidenced by his Twitter account which exceeds 180,000 followers.
Inspite of the odds, Mr. Ramirez is confident in running against an incumbent as well as other candidates in the primary. He holds firmly to the belief he espoused in his previous campaign speeches, “It is all worth while because you never lose when you serve your country.”
Mr. Ramirez expects to formalize his candidacy in late February in time to qualify for the ballot in March.
