“Remember, there was no Palestine as a state. It was part of the Ottoman Empire” until the early 20th century.”
“I think that we’ve had an invented Palestinian people who are in fact Arabs, and who were historically part of the Arab community. And they had a chance to go many places, and for a variety of political reasons we have sustained this war against Israel now since the 1940s, and it’s tragic.”  Newt Gingrich 2011
Most of you here know I am not a big fan of ex speaker Gingrich. If being President of the United States is about morality and character he should be about as far from the White House as any candidate could be yet he is the present frontrunner. While I don’t feel he is a good candidate for the Presidency I do applaud him for his honesty. The above statement took a lot of nerve to say since it is so “politically incorrect”. But is it true?
According to www.science.co.il…
“There is no language known as Palestinian, or any Palestinian culture distinct from that of all the Arabs in the area. There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. “Palestinians” are Arabs indistinguishable from Arabs throughout the Middle East. The great majority of Arabs in greater Palestine and Israel share the same culture, language and religion.
Much of the Arab population in this area actually migrated into Israel and Judea and Samaria from the surrounding Arab countries in the past 100 years.”
In fact the whole area was controlled by the Ottoman Turks from 1517 to 1917 when the British took over.
“Remember, in 1948 they were not referred to as ”Palestinians”. This name was invented by newspapers around the world after 1967. The ”Palestinian Arabs” were rejected by every single Arab country, with the exception of the small percentage that ended up in refugee camps in Jordan where they remain to this day.”  Targetofopportunity.com
“PALESTINE, a geographical name of rather loose application. Etymological strictness would require it to denote exclusively the narrow strip of coastland once occupied by the Philistines, from whose name it is derived…The modern subdivisions under the jurisdiction of the Ottoman Empire are in no sense conterminous [having common boundaries] with those of antiquity, and hence do not afford a boundary by which Palestine can be separated exactly from the rest of Syria in the north, or from the Sinaitic and Arabian deserts in the south…” (Encyclopedia Britannica, 11th ed., p. 600)
So it would appear that Mr. Gingrich was right. Palestinians are an invented people who share a common language, history and genealogy with the rest of the Arab people in the region.   Their claims that they are entitled to the land are false; their claims that they are indeed a separate race from the rest of the Arab peoples are also false. Yet a fair portion of the world is still willing to grant them nation status.  Make you wonder why doesn’t it.

I agree Ira. All the candidates have some sort of baggage. I think since many people did’t care about Clintons sexual escapades, in the oval office, no less, I see no worse in Gingrich. What I do see in the former speaker is no fear from the Washington beltway. I like that a lot! Of course some in his own party don’t like him. He wants to change their cushy do nothing jobs.BO is going to play dirty politics like we have never seen in the election. We might as well have the best debater to take him on. In the end I will support whom ever is the nominee since any of them are 200% than the current Socialist-in-chief.
