What If You Were the Boss of Obama?

Craig Covello

It has been  almost a year since I published the following article entitled “What If You Were the Boss?” on The Obama White House Diaries website   It originally appeared on June 15th, but may be worth a revisit.  Why?  Well, much has transpired during the first half of Obama’s presidency and tracking all the details can be overwhelming.  As a result, memories may be starting to fade.  Memories regarding all the outrageous, indefensible and destructive activity conducted by an administration intent on radically rewriting this nation’s past while derailing our future.  Obama’s ideology coupled with his reckless spending and divisive demagoguery may have scarred our nation, perhaps permanently.   So its amazing just how much tolerance, trust and leeway that American citizens have extended to this president as he dismantles the Constitution and mortgages future generations.  And it begs the question of whether that same leeway would be given to an employee of a private company.

So for the moment, pretend that Obama is just that – an employee working for you in a company called The United States of America.  See if you can recall the facts of this administration’s track record that support these private-sector comparisons.   Then come to your own conclusion whether or not Obama deserves a second term in office.

Here is the hypothetical scenario:  What if you were the boss and had hired an employee who….

1. Ignored your instructions?

2. Told you what you wanted to hear and then did something completely contrary to your wishes?

3. Refused to abide by your company’s budget?

4. Gave other employees raises without your authorization?

5. Bailed out his friends financially using corporate money?

6. Spent more corporate money than any employee in history and put your firm perilously close to bankruptcy?

7. Refused to produce any proof of U.S. citizenship? (for 2 years)

8. Carried a suspicious Social Security Number issued by a state thousands of miles from where he spent his first working years?

9. Would not share any of his college grades with your human resources dept?

10. Delegated his job responsibilities to people who you did not hire and do not answer to you?

20. Habitually blamed others for his own failures?

21. Went out of his way to bring unions into your workplace?

22. Was a person of interest in more than one suspected felonious crime?

23. Had friends and colleagues who have spent time in prison for illegal activities designed to ruin your company?

24. Could not be fired for 4 years?

25. Sided with your competitors?

26. Did not share any status reports with you?

27. Made your company so volatile and unpredictable that few outside investors showed interest?

28. Proclaimed that your company was no greater or lesser than any other competitor or supplier?

29. Had a performance rating which plummeted faster in the past 18 months than any other employee within the last 50 years who held that same job?

30. Held public relations events without displaying your company’s logo?

31. Allowed strangers onto your premises using the back door?

32. Did not believe your company should lock its doors after hours?

33. Refused to question anyone in your building not displaying a company ID badge?

34. Had little respect for your security guards.

35. Began assembling his own security team on your premises, accountable only to him?

36. Started implementing plans to fundamentally transform your business model even though it has proven successful for 234 years?

37. Apologized to all your competitors regarding you company’s successful business practices?

38. Solicited donations from selected customers and reciprocated by provided special company pricing and gifts?

39. Ridiculed other employees for gathering in public to express concerns regarding the security of their future with your company?

40. Insisted that your company’s research and development reports conform to his political ideology and agenda?

41. Did not take threats from your overseas competitors seriously?

42. Did not believe in incentives to reward hard work and productivity.

43. Repeatedly lied while looking you in the eye?

44. Broke his promises to you almost weekly?

45. Stole your money, your children’s money and your grandchildren’s money?

46. Spent 56 days impeding the efforts of the fire department and neighbors from assisting your company in time of disaster.

47.  Had close-knit friends who repeatedly mocked your beliefs and considered you potentially violent?

48.  Thought that your company’s articles of incorporation were flawed documents?

49.  Paid little respect to your company’s founders, history and traditions?

50. Fostered divisiveness in your corporate culture by making lunchtime speeches emphasizing differences in paychecks?

51. Made uninformed judgements and decisions based upon preconceived racial stereotypes and ideologies?

52. Lacked basic leadership skills, had virtually no business experience and could not deliver meeting presentations without reading from a piece of paper.

53. Held more parties than any past employee in his position, all on company time?

54. Projected an image of incompetence coupled with arrogance?

55. Tried to tell YOU what to do?

So again, what would you do….if your employee was the President of the United States?

Before you answer, consider what Michelle Obama said during the campaign:

“Barack Obama is going to require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation. That you move out of your comfort zone. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual. Uninvolved, and uninformed.”

Well, here is a reality check.  We do not work for Obama.  Obama works for us.

  • We define our lives, not Obama.
  • Our money belongs to us, not Obama.
  • Our rights are handed down by our creator, not Obama.

We collectively hired him.  We can also collectively fire him.  Enough is enough.

Remember that when you vote in 2012.

Since so many people these days seem to have a problem understanding reality, presenting the issues with Obama in a practical, every-day context like this strikes me as immensely valuable.
