Was it worth the wait?
So for two and a half years Barack H. Obama has listened to those that claimed he was not a natural born citizen. For two and a half years he slowly released bits and pieces of the puzzle of his birth to the American public. For two and a half years he allowed the speculation to perpetuate and fester to the point of obsession. Donald Trump even based his supposed Presidential campaign on it. Today Barack H. Obama did what 45% of republicans wanted him to do but claimed he could never do….present his original birth certificate.
In that two and a half years thousands of stories have been broadcast, published and posted regarding this issue; several on this website. Donald Trump has been goading the President on this very issue for the last few months and is now feeling “proud” and “honored” that his efforts have proven fruit. Gotta love the guy. If ever there was a “King of Spin” The Donald is it. I believe he could actually sell cavemen car insurance.

Okay so the “Birth Certificate” has been released….now what? Well now the people want to know, “Why didn’t he produce it sooner?” Even though “The Donald” is taking the credit I believe this release was a preplanned event; an event that was decided upon at least a year ago if not two. Despite the fact that the “Birther Issue” has been a thorn in the Presidents side it was a very little thorn. It occupied the time of about 45% of the Republican populace and was a perfect distraction. He didn’t care about the noisy rallies, or the hundreds of thousands of postings on the internet, or the dozens of books published on the issue. He didn’t care if people were calling him a liar because he knew all along he had proof; he had the one thing they were claiming didn’t exist, the birth certificate. And by producing the one document most “birthers” said didn’t exist he has managed to discredit a large portion of Republican voters. Why do you think the Republican Party stayed away from the issue? They smelled a trap and refused to play the game. Karl Rove warned the Republican Party of this “trap” a long time ago. He warned them to stand clear of this issue and encouraged them to tell their constituents to also. Several did. Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) told CNN that ‘the reality is that, yes, he was born in the United States.” He continued, “We ought to get off this kick. There are plenty of differences we have with the president between Republicans and Democrats than to spend time on something like this.”
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) in an interview with ABC News said, “We should take the President at his word” on where he was born but wouldn’t definitively say that Obama was born in the country. So the red flags were out there but no one chose to listen.
Gotcha
So why would Obama care about discrediting people who were never going to vote for him anyway? Because of the “Swing Vote”; those voters who have not made up their minds about Obama and that is presently about 18% of the voting populace (according to latest Marist Poll). That’s a lot of people and certainly enough, along with the Unions and Big Business, to win Obama a second term.
So now what? Do you go after the Birth Certificate and claim it is a fake or cut your losses and retreat from the field of battle on this issue? In my opinion you cut your losses, by continuing this fight you only dig yourselves a deeper hole to try and climb out of. The damage has been done and it is time to move on to finding a candidate that can realistically defeat this man. That is the tantamount issue now, that is the issue that everyone needs to spend their time and efforts on. Republicans need to get off the fence and toss their hats into the ring. They need to display the leadership and confidence the people are looking for and they need to do it now because time is running out.

I find it amusing that you insist on blaming President Obama for setting a “trap.” I think today’s media reports say it all. Many, including Trump, are already questioning whether the original document released is a forgery. Perhaps President Obama knew that if it wasn’t one thing, it would be another. He could easily spend his time releasing documents demanded by his opponents rather than doing his job as President, when nothing he provides will satisfy those people. You do make a good point, the people who have been harping on this issue have discredited themselves.
It took them over 2 yrs to release this? It’s just another COLB without the embossed seal. It also has his father’s race as African (PC) when in the 60s it was Negro. His mother’s address is questionable as the neighbor there, since before’61, does not remember a negro child or them ever living there but remembers other people.
Hey Dave – I think this was a very calculated move. After having worked around publicists – this sort of asshat nonsense is a DREAM! I’m just amazed at how many ignorant people fell for it – hook, line and sinker.
I agree…I broke it down in layers too like others have and I’m convinced it is not an untouched copy of the original but I’m also convinced that it’s exactly what it was intended to be…
The “Birther Questions and Answers” was an adequate road map for a civilized debate.
Why is it with our God given intellect, we have yet to comprehend that essence of “truth”. That knowledge acquired is obtained when we question and doubt the very existence of God, for He or She would demand it. No matter how outrageous the hypothesis, the point is to exercise your free will, investigate, and choose.
Beware, it is not the truth the counts but how it appears. Why are people “ignorant” or ‘uneducated” just because they have a different point of view? It is the lack of tolerance and the unwillingness to accept that we might be wrong, this is the worst offense.
To “ridicule” as so many of us do, is to fall into the Sal Alinsky trap. “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.” And ridicule is often the refuge of those who would not accept being “wrong.”
One can honorably be on either side of this issue, with adequate intellectual, educated, foundation. Given enough time and research we can justify almost anything.
How many of us have forgotten that the earth was “flat”, deemed to be an absolute/religious “truth”, the disbelievers were heretics and some burned at the stake. We commit this sin again now intellectually, we commit this error, with full knowledge of the past, with “disdain” for another’s point of view? And all of this is possible with compassion, without ceding, without surrendering our point of view. Give the “facts” as we know them. And then let the reader decide! We are better than this!
