Why do Beck and Palin Create Fear in the Hearts of Liberals?

Frank DeMartini

On Saturday, Glenn Beck hosted a rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.  Reports on the attendance at the rally vary from 300,000 to 600,000.  No matter how you look at it, it was a big crowd.  One of the speakers was Sarah Palin who is looked at by the far left as the Devil herself.  The rally was peaceful and was covered by all of the major news organizations.  It was the major news of the day.  The crowd was well behaved and the organizers were very happy with the results and turnout.

Beginning Saturday evening, numerous posts about the rally started to appear on the Internet, including on Facebook.  These posts varied from adulance to outright vile hatred of both the rally and its speakers.  In fact, the Left has apparently taken the position that this rally is one of the worst things that has ever happened to the Country.

According to the Washington Post, a protester at the rally, Ben Thielen, 32, a District public-policy worker, caused a stir with a sign that said:

”It’s because of the 1st Amendment that Glenn Beck can spew his filth on the steps.”

The rally which took place on the same day as Martin Luther King Jr’s,”I have a Dream” speech led the Rev. Jesse Jackson to tell CNN that Beck was mimicking King and “humiliating the tradition.”

Since when is a political rally “filth” and a “humiliation?”  A few blocks away from the rally, the Reverend Al Sharpton held a rally in which less than 500 attended to commemorate the anniversary of the King Speech.  You did not hear anyone trying to take away the freedom to speak from Mr. Sharpton even though he is a known racist and hatemonger.

A long time ago I wrote an article entitled “Has PC Taken Away Free Speech” and another article entitled “What is a Republican Today.”  Both of those articles cover my position and views on Free Speech.  To sum up, I believe it is absolute, of course taking into account the few limitations placed by the US Supreme Court.  I believe it is absolute even when talking about the Cordoba Center at Ground Zero.  My prior article “It’s About Respect.” which has been severely criticized does not say the Imam does not have legal grounds to build the mosque;  it said that it was not the morally right thing to do.  So, I have been consistent on my theories regarding free speech.

Why can’t the left take the same position?  The ACLU and the left argue consistently that they defend Free Speech, but as I pointed out in my earlier articles, it is only when they agree with the Free Speech they are protecting.  If they disagree, they want to take it away.  That becomes abundantly clear when you look at a debate I had on Facebook yesterday.  During that debate, I was basically told to shut up because I was as ignorant as was our good friends Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin.  Further during that debate, I came to an amazing conclusion.  The far left is petrified of both Beck and Palin.  I cannot help but wonder why?  What is there about these two people that scares the living hell out of the Far Left, especially in light of the fact that the continually categorize both of them as stupid!

Maybe it is because the left realizes that these two speak for the “main street” of America and because they support the ideals of our founding fathers.  These are the same ideals that the Obama Administration has spent the last two years trying to take away.  The same ideals that the socialists and those that support the new world order want to destroy.  The same ideals that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have tried to suppress.  These are the ideals of Jefferson, Adams, Hamilton and Washington.

Maybe some of you have other thoughts.  I just want to know what creates that fear of the two.  Am I missing something?

No Frank, I don’t believe you have missed a thing. As a matter of fact, I think you hit the proverbial nail square on the head. The liberal left are getting scared. In my small circle on Facebook, I have gotten into a few debates with some of these left wingers. What astounds me, is that almost every time I have had conversations with these people, when presented with facts and figures to back up my argument, they almost always bring out the race card. If I’m not FOR Obama, then I must be a racist. How ludicrous! Sharpton and Jackson are both, as we all know, racists in the strongest sense of the word. PC? I couldn’t care less. If I don’t like something I hear, I tune it out. If someone doesn’t like what I have to say, that’s their right. But as long as the Constitution stands, I have a right to say what I want, and so does everyone else. That’s the way it is, and that’s the way it should remain. It’s one of the primary building blocks of this great nation.
Keep getting the word out and doing what you’re doing. Utimately it’s for the greater good of our country. Thanks!

Tim: Thanks for the comment. I agree with everything you said except one thing. I have met Jesse Jackson on a few ocassions. I do not agree with him politically, but have always found him to be a gentleman and extremely courteous. As for Sharpton, I am in total agreement with you.

The liberal left in this country is elistist and therefore feels that they are above the common person who is too stupid to think for themselves. We must be told how to think and act by them for our own good. They want to stifle any opinion that does not agree with their views. That is why they must downgrade and make fun of anyone who has an opposite view. And why so many in the academic community try to teach our children how to think. I was once a naive college student who listened to their bs and didn’t wake up until Ronald Reagan came along. Their socialist agenda is to tax the stupid people who actually work for a living to support the people who don’t want to but vote for them.

Great article Frank but you know as well as I do that both have immediate access to the mass market via TV. Their messages go out to millions in the blink of an eye. And most blindly believe them. That is a dangerous combination and the Democrates know it. They also know they can’t control it and that makes them VERY uncomfortable. Though Palin is more of a joke than a viable candidate she still has her minyans and they number in the millions with more and more people listening everyday. That makes a very dangerous situation for those presently in power.

No one is questioning the right to free speech. They’re scared because if you listen closely to people like Beck and Palin, they have nothing to say of substance, and even more so, their diatribes are an embarrassment to intelligent people everywhere. Should either of them ever be in a position of nationwide decision making, there will be a lot more to be petrified of.

  7. Shirley on September 1, 2010 at 1:46 am

Frank, I concur completely. I love all of your reports. For those who do not understand the substance of Beck and Palin, you ironically validate what Beck and Palin say. The progressive intellectual elite academics have been responsible largely for the decline in our educational system. Your education has lacked substance, a common theme with Beck and Palin.

I would also note that as nominee and President Obama, his message went out to millions and was blindly followed. “Blind” is in the eye of the beholder. If Palin is not liked, people are “blinded”. Which goes to your earlier point, Frank, that liberals only defend freedom of speech they approve. Otherwise, it is racist, bigoted, dangerous, and people will be blinded.

Thank you for the wonderful new website. I will certainly direct others to it.

I had time to kill today and read your article – as a middle of the road and slightly conservative individual; I have to say that I see neither fear nor hatred in the left against either Palin or Beck. Rather, there seems to be a collective disgust at the lack of intelligent debate and the sad possibility that either of these folks could influence our children’s future. I think they do draw crowds, as do other celebrities, but let’s not be disingenuous about the selection of the date and the location – they were picked because of the MLK speech.

As to free speech, I have not heard anyone seriously evince any desire to muzzle but do understand an interest in factual debate rather than emotional rhetoric. It is in the nature of American politics to have venomous comments, going as far back as the lampooning of Lincoln and even the attacks on Kennedy as a Catholic. However, there seems to be a much more defined hard-line of both left and right which are attempting to portray themselves as mainstream. We do need strong candidates for office, but not demagogues of either extreme

Some final comments, far from final since we have known each other for well over twenty years, Obama has not attacked nor undertaken any effort to destroy the principals of the founding fathers and is a constitutional law expert. We have to remember that our founding fathers established a republic based on principals garnered from the collective history of mankind and they created an organic or living document we live by today, which nowhere except in the phrase “Seventeenth Day of September in the year of our lord, one thousand seven hundred eight seven” is God mentioned. Rather, they eventually recognized multiple freedoms through the Bill of Rights that are supported to this day.

I was concerned when Busch II was President about our freedoms, but fortunately the constitution has survived and we are still a vigorous republic despite the heavy debt of two wars and other expenditures.

Speaking of which, back to work…

I concur with the most previous poster. In simple terms I have a natural aversion to revisionism and demagoguery from either side. Additionally the fomenting and divisive language is something I would never ascribe to from anyone on any subject matter. The fear you refer to comes from the possibility of either one of these intelligence-lacking individuals ever holding any office of power containing the potential to make critical decisions which could affect our lives. They are woefully inept and under qualified for anything remotely close to such a consideration, Anyone who thinks differently need merely investigate their bank accounts to learn where their real efforts are directed towards.

  10. Jim on September 2, 2010 at 3:18 pm

Great article and on target. The far left knows their power is about ready to be taken away from them and they are attacking the only way they know how. America is awake now and those tactics do not work anymore.

HERE IS A COMMENT BY A FRIEND WHO WISHES TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS

As to your masterfully crafted comments on “Why do Palin and Beck Create.” Did we miss the point of the 8/28/10 Restoring Honor rally?

Boyd’s Continuum for War: Material, Intellectual, Moral. What can that possibly have to do with the Hollywood Republican? It is a little like thinking outside of the box, A Doctor Seuss box, where there are three, one inside the other; Material, Intellectual, Moral such that limitations and restriction of wisdom are not truly removed until one is outside of all three constraints, looking out at liberty.

First what is Boyd’s Continuum for War? It is a concept of warfare that advocates attempting to defeat an adversary (enemies?) by incapacitating their decision-making through shock and disruption brought about by movement. It is manoeuvre warfare which advocates that strategic movement can bring about defeat of an opposing force more efficiently that by simply contacting and destroying enemy forces until they can no longer fight. It is potential warfare without casualties. It is called Boyd’s Continuum for War as much of the credit for acceptance of maneuver warfare in the United States military is given to fighter pilot John Boyd. One might be so bold as to consider it the supreme counter insurgency for the stratagems of Alinsky, Cloward and Piven

And we ruminate, cogitate, meditate and reflect over what the obstacles in the path of the mission and goal must be, to a Conservative ascendancy to “restoring our commitment to life, liberty and sacred honor, to America.” Some correctly identify the Sal Alinsky Rules for Radicals as the line of attack of unprincipled progressives. They embrace the Cloward and Piven Stratagem of expanding the welfare state overloading an already overburdened bureaucracy until it collapses from within, thus dictating a restructuring (Fundamental Transformation). We know how we are being defeated but they do not understand why.

George S Patton, in the movie “Patton”, looking through his binoculars, after catching the German 21st Panzer Division in a pincher trap at the Battle of El Guettar causing the Germans to retreat, the script elucidates, possibly in error, but a transcendent point is made, “know your enemy”, referring to Rommel’s book “Infantry Attacks” and Patton’s defeat of German forces, Patton believed to be lead by Erwin Rommel, “Rommel… you magnificent bastard, I read your book”, a sublime concept although purely fictional, the message has Aristotle eminence. This is a concept that has extreme cache, woeful in the lack of scrutiny of Alinsky, Cloward and Piven.

But what is this theory of Material, Intellectual, Moral strategy? First one must analogize the theory into elections, institutions, and culture strategy. One finds this analysis in a very unlikely place, -Chicago Boyz –http://chicagoboyz.net- (I think I See What Glenn Beck is Doing).

Dare one say “Beck (Glenn Beck) sees correctly that the Conservative movement had only limited success because it was good at level 1 (Elections), for a while, weak on level 2 (Institutions), and barely touched at level 3 (Culture). Talk radio (possibly Blogs such as this) and the Tea Party are level 3 phenomena, popular outbreaks, which are blowing back into politics.” Leave your politics, signs and angst at home. Religion is not a template but certain Constitutional, Bill of Rights and Judeo Christian philosophies (vs Liberation Theology) are a must “common” ground, and critical.

Spirituality embracing religious and non religious versions of positive themes of unity, patriotism, freedom and independence are above and beyond mere political or policy choices, but not irreverent to them.” Can one accept this as a vision despised by the people who have long held the commanding heights of the culture?

“The Conservative movement, the Tea Party and the Glenn Beck transcendence is building solidarity and cultural confidence in America, its Constitution, its military heritage, its freedom.”

“Beck is attacking the enemy (there is that word again) at the foundation of their power, their claim to race as a permanent trump card, their claim to the Civil Rights movement as a permanent model to constantly be transforming a perpetually unjust society. He is nuking out the foundations of the opposition’s moral preeminence.”

Become the change we seek and the rest will follow. Restore pride and confidence and prepare for a generation long struggle.

And this was the very essence of the 8/28/2010 “Restoring Honor” rally. Did anyone get it? Will anyone write about it eloquently (I am not the one) in this blog? Does anyone not believe in Faith, Hope and Charity?

  12. Billy Dean on September 3, 2010 at 1:12 pm

Great piece Frank!!! I wonder if those who agree that Glen Beck spews FILTH have ever listened to him???? He is right in the middle of this crazy government debate. Talking about it every night, trying to get people involved. Trying to explain what is going on. How this spending and ideals of the liberals will end FREEDOM!!! If you have no money you can’t be free!!! Where the Federal government is going is not a good place. We are repeating the policies that gave us the great depression. If you grow the Federal Government by 25% every two years it will eat up the private sector in just a few decades. This is Beck’s message!!! He goes over and over why the Federal Reserve can’t keep buying up Treasury Bonds with printed money and why we can’t keep borrowing money from all over the world. The fact that many of the people that Obama has working for him are admitted Socialist’s and some even Communist’s. Beck is doing the work journalist’s should be doing!!!

  15. Lynn Repko on September 6, 2010 at 1:57 pm

Boyd’s Continuum for War may indeed be part of a thoughtful strategy of a few powerful leftist/statists. For the most part however, the sneering, cynical liberal left simply don’t have the goods to defend their positions.

It scares the crap out of them when reasonable and educated people don’t take their ludicrous ideas seriously. Rather than learning more about those issues important to them, educating themselves on the history, facts, context, etc., they choose to dig in their heels and remain ignorant.

This is the reason they want us to shut up and go away. They have no defense against reasoning, knowledge, and the simple truth. They are frightened by independent, self-reliant, and responsible people who don’t waste precious life energy by gazing at their own navels waiting be to told what to think.

The irony completely escapes them while they believe themselves to be anti-establishment, rebels, more enlightened than the masses, elite by virtue of their extraordinary common sense, they are merely the useful idiot pawns playing a part in their own destruction.

How many times must history teach us this very same lesson?
